Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides specialised services for children and adolescents requiring surgery for conditions including:
- dentofacial abnormalities
- facial trauma
- pathology of the mouth and jaw
- dentoalveolar conditions
- odontogenic infections
- maxillofacial trauma including facial fractures.

Who can access this service?
Referrals are accepted up to a child’s 16th birthday.
Existing patients with complex care needs
Referrals are accepted up to a child’s 18th birthday (patients are usually transitioned to adult services by this time).
This service is available to children living within the Queensland Children’s Hospital catchment area.
Telehealth appointments are also available to patients living outside the catchment area when clinically appropriate.

You will need a formal referral to access this service.
How do I get a referral?
Referrals are accepted from:
- general practitioners
- paediatric specialists.

New referrals for cleft lip and palate, and craniofacial patients should contact the cleft and craniofacial clinical nurse via the hospital switchboard.
