The audiologists themselves go to great lengths to make you, comfortable and to keep you informed as to what's going on in the appointment, which is very good. There's definitely a level of anxiety going into those appointments cause you don't know what's gonna come out the other side.

Janice Wu-Audiologist: It is very, very important that we do see the child as early as possible so that if there is a problem with their hearing, we're able to detect that as early as possible.

The other important reason why we like to see the child sooner rather than later is that most of the testing that we are doing requires the child to be asleep.

They let us take our time and if we needed to feed and settle him, that was allowed, and they talked and let us know a lot about what the process and steps were going to be, whether either way it went.

Janice Wu-Audiologist: When we're testing a child's hearing, we're wanting to determine whether or not the, the baby has sufficient hearing to develop early speech and language. So while a child with a hearing loss may be able to detect certain louder sounds, they may be unable to detect the very, very soft speech sounds.

It was good they took through every stage of, you know, every test of why they're doing that test .

They broke everything down in the way they things to me and help me to really understand.

Getting the results in the end, knowing what the results are helps. And getting the audiologist to explain what that means helps.

Your child will usually have regular appointments with an audiologist. This is important so that any changes in their hearing are discovered and acted upon quickly. Your audiologist will have spoken to you about the nature of your child's hearing loss and can help you to understand what the results of your child's hearing test mean both now and in the future.
