Wanya, wanya, wanya.
Welcome to the Ellen Barron Family Centre.
I play the didgeridoos to acknowledge our ancestors,
to also acknowledge your ancestors, wherever you may come from.
The slow beat is the heartbeat of our children,
who we know will be part of our history forever.
Located in Chermside, Brisbane,
the Ellen Barron Family Centre offers a statewide
specialised child health service for families
needing intensive support to gain
practical parenting skills and confidence,
parenting children from birth to three years.
As Queensland's only public early parenting centre,
It is our aim to work with families to achieve their goals
and build confidence and reassurance as you progress through your parenting journey.
We do this in partnership with you by providing education, support,
strategies for responsive sleeping and settling,
feeding and nutrition, routines, toddler behaviour and general parenting.
Our commitment is to provide safe, family centred care
by working in partnership with you,
because we know that nobody knows
your child better than you do.
Where’s your sissy?
During your stay, you will continue
to be responsible for your child's care and supported by our staff
to develop a personalised care plan that aims to support your goals.
The staff will regularly review the care plan with you during your stay,
ensuring that you are on track to reach your goals and build parenting confidence.
Our staff are on hand 24/7 to answer any questions you may have.
My husband and I brought Marco to Ellen Barron
to support his sleeping routine and habits.
So we did a bit of research and found that Ellen Barron had a program
where we could actually come in and stay with them
and support his sleeping habits with some nurses on board.
It was great to be part of Dad's shed and a safe place for us to connect
with other fathers in a place where we could actually
share our feelings and thoughts.
I feel very confident in bringing, you know, the strategies
that they gave us to support us back at home.
Inpatient programs typically last four nights
with an extended option of up to ten days for additional support.
Before admission, a health check is required
to ensure the well-being of your family
and to prevent infection of other families in the centre.
If you or your family become unwell prior to your scheduled admission day,
please contact us.
I was just wondering if you had any questions about your
child’s sleep or settling.
Our virtual telehealth residential program lasts for five days and allows you
to connect with our team via video link in the comfort of your own home.
We use a video sharing platform to ensure a seamless experience,
just like a face to face visit would be.
You will see your health professional on your device
and hear them through your speakers or headphones.
They will see and hear you too.
The Ellen Barron Family Centre is purpose built to support early parenting.
The centre includes private rooms with en suites and joint infant rooms
to accommodate parents or caregivers and children,
outdoor gardens,
group education rooms,
lounge areas,
indoor and outdoor play areas,
a family dining room,
laundry facilities,
access to local shops and parks within walking distance
and accessibility features for those living with a disability.
When I first came into the centre, I had a brief idea,
but I didn't know the full extent on what to expect.
Once I saw the facilities, the rooms
and the supportful staff, it gave me a great peace of mind.
I also really loved the groups here because it helped educate us about things
we needed to know with our children and it was also a great experience
to share it with other families that were going through a similar thing.
The first day will include your family completing a health check,
admission paperwork, orientation to the Ellen Barron facility
and a nursing consultation to set goals, understand your child's development
and your current routines for sleep and feeding.
We provide all meals and cater to special dietary needs.
However, you are still welcome to bring any individualised food items.
You'll be required to bring clothes for your family,
toiletries, including soap, wipes, nappy creams and tissues,
your infant feeding equipment, Personal Health Record book
and any prescribed medications.
For more information on what to bring,
visit ‘A Guide to Your Stay’ on our website,
along with a suite of educational videos
to help prepare for your admission.
My experience at the centre was really positive because the staff
were able to work with me and my twins one on one to achieve our goals.
Change can be really hard and going into a new environment can be scary,
but Ellen Barron's got really good education and support
and it worked really well for us
so I recommend giving it a go.
Together in partnership with you,
our aim is to provide the best health care for you and your family.
