Children's health is a priority for every family, and we understand the importance of easy access to health care services.

That's why the Child Health Service offer telehealth appointments as a service option.

It's nice that we can connect like this.

The Child Health Service provides a free service for parents and carers of children from birth to eight years.

To support families and children with health and development, behaviour, breast and bottle feeding, introducing solid foods and healthy eating, sleep and settling, parent groups, and connecting and communicating with your child.

Our telehealth appointments are designed as part of our everyday health service delivery.

Telehealth appointments involve the parent or carer, the child, and one of our experienced team members.

This may be a child health nurse, early parenting social worker or psychologist, or an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker.

You may like to have your partner or another family support person present with you.

If you speak a language other than English, an accredited interpreter will be provided.

We use a video sharing platform to ensure a seamless experience, just like a face to face visit would be.

You will see your health professional on your device and hear them through your speakers or headphones.

They will see and hear you too.

Leo’s been talking really well.

You will receive a secure link that will be sent to you via SMS on the day that you book your appointment, and also two days before your appointment.

You won't need any special equipment other than your device.

If you require other simple household items such as a ball, plastic container or book to help you with your appointment, your clinician will advise you of this beforehand.

To prepare for the session, we recommend having a drink and snacks handy, choosing a quiet space and having some simple toys for your child to be able to interact with you.

Be sure to have your child's Personal Health Record book.

For older children, make sure that they have been to the toilet before the appointment.

This preparation ensures that you will get the best out of your appointment.

You may find it helpful to write down any questions you may have before your appointment.

Your clinician may also provide you with some further information for you to access after the appointment.

The appointment time may vary, however, during your session, we will dedicate plenty of time to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Being in their own environment can help children to feel comfortable during the telehealth appointment.

This allows us to see their strengths as they engage, play and interact with you.

Together in partnership with you, our aim is to provide the best health care for you and your family.
