Birdie's Tree early learning program

Our early learning program helps early childhood educators support young children's wellbeing and build their emotional resilience in hard times.

The program is for early childhood teachers and educators. It's about natural disasters but it also helps you support children through other stressful or disruptive events.

The program aligns with ACECQA's Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards.

Program content

The program includes content on how to:

  • help children prepare for, cope with and recover from natural disasters
  • use play to help children learn about feelings and emotional resilience
  • help children talk about and work through 'big feelings' such as anger, worry or fear
  • create an emotionally supportive environment.

Learning outcomes

  • Improve your skills to support the emotional wellbeing of babies, young children and families
  • Recognise signs of stress and trauma in young children
  • Identify children who may need more support for their emotional wellbeing
  • Talk with families about referral options for children who may need extra support
  • Manage your own wellbeing in disruptive or stressful times
