Who we work with
We work with young people, their families and carers to improve their social and emotional wellbeing and help them participate in school and their community.
We offer safe and high-quality assessments and care services. You’ll help make decisions about your care. We’ll ask for your input, offer you choices, and respect your privacy.
We may be able to help if you're:
- between 13 and 18
- currently under the care of a Queensland Health child and youth mental health service (CYMHS)
- feeling highly distressed and or engaging in risky behaviours
- at risk of deterioration in your emotional and social wellbeing
- experiencing severe and complex mental health difficulties
- struggling to attend CYMHS community clinics.
Planning your care
We’ll work with you and your family and may also work with other agencies or service providers to develop your care plan.
This may include:
- mental health assessments
- individual therapy
- family therapy
- group work
- medicine.
We may also refer you to other CYMHS programs or non-government agencies.
Our team
Our team may include different health professionals such as:
- psychologists
- social workers
- occupational therapists
- speech pathologists
- nursing and medical staff
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.
Depending on your needs, you may see one or more members of our team. Each team has a psychiatrist who will oversee your care.
We can also arrange an interpreter to help if you’re deaf, hard of hearing or speak another language.
Getting a referral
You must be under the care of one of the following mental health services who can refer you to us.
- Community CYMHS
- Evolve Therapeutic Services
- Forensic CYMHS
- CYMHS day programs
Before your referral
Before referring you to our services, your mental health team will talk to you, and your family or carers. They'll ask if you consent to the referral. If you’re independent, you’ll be asked to give informed consent if you can. You’ll be encouraged to involve your parents or carers in your treatment where it’s appropriate.
After your referral
When we get your referral, we’ll decide together if we’re able to give you the help and support you need. We’ll also consider if we can meet the needs of your family or carers.
If we accept your referral, one of our clinicians will arrange a few assessment appointments over 6 weeks. They’ll continue to coordinate your ongoing care during this time.
During these 6 weeks, we’ll work with you and your current mental health team to make a care plan.
