Before your child leaves hospital, we’ll decide if they need clinical consumables to help them at home. This might include things like:

  • syringes
  • bandages
  • gloves.

We'll make sure you know how to use them before you go home, and help you order anything you need from our central resources service (CRS).

How to order supplies for home (clinical consumables)

We’ll fill in a clinical order form for you and send it to our central resources service. You still need to place the order yourself. These supplies are free, and you’ll have enough for 4 weeks.

You must place the order with CRS at least 3 days before you plan on going home by either:

You’ll need to tell them:

  • your child’s name
  • their unit record number (URN)
  • your phone number
  • when you’ll collect the supplies.

If you live in a rural or regional area, we can give you a 2 month supply. Let us know before we fill in your order form.

If you don’t pick your order up within 6 months, we’ll review it and may give you a new one.

How to order equipment

We can loan you a suction machine if you need one at home. You must pay a deposit which you'll get back when you return the equipment.

We’ll fill in an equipment loan order form for you. You’ll need to:

  1. Take the form to the cashier office on level 2 and pay the deposit
  2. Take the form and your deposit receipt to CRS on level 2
  3. Complete the loan agreement form

You’ll be able to take the equipment home with you on the same day.

Changing your order

You can’t make any changes to your order once we’ve sent it to our resources service. They’ll only give you the items and quantities listed on your order form. Let us know if you think your order needs to be updated so we can send a new one.

Some items need to be serviced every year. We’ll let you know if you need to bring any equipment back in, and we’ll give you a replacement.
