The Queensland Paediatric Sepsis Program has co-designed the evidence-based Paediatric Sepsis Pathway for screening, early recognition and management of sepsis in children.

The Paediatric Sepsis Pathway available below, includes a sepsis recognition and screening tool, treatment bundle and management plan, antibiotic prescribing and administration guidelines. Resources for families including a paediatric sepsis signs checklist and information sheet for parents and carers of a child diagnosed with sepsis are also included.

The Pathway, has been co-designed by a multidisciplinary team of experts and consumers whose families had been personally impacted by sepsis. The Pathway is suitable for all Queensland Health facilities including emergency departments, rural and remote hospitals and inpatient wards. The Pathway can be ordered at WINC using the following code.

  • 1NY42186 – paediatric sepsis pathway
  • SW1205a - paediatric Sepsis Parent and Carer Information Sheet
  • SW1205b - paediatric Sepsis Checklist
  • 1NY43879 - Information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families of a child with sepsis

If your organisation does not have a WINC account, you will need to create an account to be able to place an order.

A paediatric sepsis care pathway is currently under development for the ieMR along with digital dashboards for real time reporting.
