Sepsis clinical guidelines and tools

Children’s Health Queensland, in partnership with the Clinical Excellence Queensland Paediatric Sepsis Project, has developed Paediatric Sepsis Pathways for the early recognition and management of sepsis in children.

The Paediatric Sepsis Pathways, available below, include a sepsis recognition and screening tool, treatment bundle, and antibiotic prescribing and administration guidelines to assist clinicians in screening and recognising sepsis earlier and initiating treatment in line with international best practice guidelines.

The Pathways have been co-designed by a multidisciplinary team of experts and consumers whose families had been personally impacted by sepsis and have been contextualised for Queensland emergency departments, including rural and remote hospitals. A paediatric inpatient sepsis pathway is currently in trial.

A paediatric sepsis care pathway is currently under development for the ieMR and it is anticipated for release by mid 2021.
