Graduate placements for registered nurses
We offer a 12 month graduate program for newly qualified registered nurses. The program helps you develop paediatric nursing skills in a supportive learning environment. It includes:
- a 7 day orientation program
- bedside learning
- clinical teaching
- supernumerary time in clinical departments
- study days
- mentor and preceptor support.
You can also transition to our paediatric practice program while you’re in the graduate program. It provides specialist paediatric learning for different clinical settings and includes:
- theoretical learning
- skills-based learning and assessments.
You can use the program as a credit towards a Graduate Certificate in Paediatrics at some universities.
Clinical areas
The program works across the following clinical areas.
- Burns unit
- Cardiac medicine and surgery
- Emergency and critical care units
- General surgery
- Mental health for children and young people
- Neonatal and infant care
- Neurosurgery
- Oncology and haematology
- Orthopaedics
- Perioperative unit
- Rehabilitation
- Short stay unit
If you want to complete the program in the perioperative or mental health areas let us know when you apply.
While we consider your clinical area preference, we won't confirm your clinical area until you've finished the recruitment process.

Applications open in July and close in August. Make sure you apply before the closing date. We won’t accept late applications.
You'll need to include your:
- resume with all of your clinical placements and a cover letter
- graduate summary and academic transcript.

Who can apply
To apply you need to have studied an undergraduate nursing course or graduate-entry Master of Nursing course. You must also:
- have completed your degree in the past 2 years or be due to complete your degree by March
- be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
- not have worked as a full-time nurse for more than 6 months.

We welcome applications from all graduate nurses. You don't need to have done a student placement with us.
After you apply
The recruitment process can take 2 to 3 months.
We shortlist applicants based on merit. If we shortlist your application, we'll invite you to an interview. You need to bring photo ID and your last 2 clinical placement reports to the interview.
We'll also ask you for 2 references. At least one of these must be a clinical reference from your final year of studies or work placement.
We'll call or email you to let you know the outcome of your application.
If your application is successful, the program will start from February. You can apply for vacant jobs with us after you complete the program.
